In and Out of the Garden, 30 x 36 inches
This oil painting is a lush floral still-life filled to the brim with all the flowers that bloom in May. It was painted in 2014 in anticipation for my first solo exhibition, since then it has been in various exhibitions and recently has returned to me.
It is a joy to live with this painting again, however I want to find a forever home for this painting. I would love to know it is adding beauty to your home and life.
The painting is named “In and Out of the Garden” to refer to the overarching love of spending time outside and also the joy found in having fresh flowers in the house. The painting is brimming with the bounty of the garden, pale-pink peonies, wild white rambling roses, lush pink cabbage roses, clematis, purple columbine and fresh strawberries. All gathered from my garden in May.
I love this painting for its idyllic flowers, and as a painting I exalt in its execution. This oil painting was painted on a very rough linen weave, I special ordered because I wanted to experiment with the variety of painting effects one can create on this linen surface.
I love how when a light color of oil paint is scumbled over a darker layer of paint, depicting how light will skitter and rake across a rough surface. Such as the wooden box of strawberries.
And where I wanted a smooth, glossy surface, such as these glass jars, I laid thick layers of painting, smoothing out the surface, so to better represent the hard and shining glass of the jars.
This painting is a delight, and it deserves a cherished home.
