Forsythia and Botanical Books, 20 x 16 inches
Flowers, books, bowls, and collected momentos.⠀ I believe the things that populate our lives are also the things that define us.
This painting, is one of the first of a new series I am beginning to explore. The idea is that each painting will explore sensual memory, where the sudden appearance of a smell or taste or sound or color instantly floods the imagination with images from the past. Like how the taste of madeleine crumbs leads Proust on his journey “In Search of Lost Time.”
Each painting in this series will focus on the nuances and combinations of details that occur when objects are brought together. Evoking feelings and thoughts of how we live life.
I am so happy to share that this painting has found a cherished place in the home of a collector.
Creative Process Notes:
This painting was a pleasure to work on. I had been waiting for the forsythia to bloom.
With many of my floral still-life paintings, I love working from life, building a relationship with the flowers and the season they grow in. It is what motivates me to create everyday. Celebrating the fleeing moments in time and saving them for posterity.
