Skywatch Friday No. 49: Mason Neck State Park

Today I visited Mason Neck State Park and went on a nature hike. I realized that I had not gotten out of my routine in quite awhile and wanted to visit someplace new. I felt lucky that eventually some blue sky peaked out, as the majority of the day was bright gray with complete cloud cover.

This area of Virginia and the Potomac feels pretty rural, though it is only about 30 miles south of DC. The Potomac is so wide here that the streams flowing into it are affected by the direction of the tide. This is the same area as Gunston Hall, George Mason's home
